Onika Tanya Miraj is the real name of a born-to-be-star who reached success and fame in a matter of time. Nicki Minaj, her stage name, is a well known female rapper who was born in Trinidad and Tobago and moved to Queens, New York when she was 5. She sought out to become famous because she wanted to help her mother who was married to an abusive, alcoholic, drug addict husband. She wanted her mother to have women power and would stop at nothing to help her.  Nicki first started simply free-styling on her MySpace account and was recognized by the Dirty Money CEO Fendi, who listened to her and instantly signed her to his label. Before this fame came, she lived a very poor life, which was more of a thrive to succeed. She always had the feeling of women empowerment within her and wanted to share it with her mother.

"I've always had this female-empowerment thing in the back of my mind because I wanted my mother to be stronger, and she couldn't be. I thought, 'If I'm successful, I can change her life.''
– Nicki Minaj

With her past being very dark, she would stop at nothing to reach this fame to help her mother become and independent women and live a nice, struggle-free life.
Minaj was headed to fame faster than she thought. She first had a verse with Lil Wayne in the song Bedrock, and then with Drake in Moment for Life. She then started writing her own material which got her 7 singles on the Top 100 Billboards. Her first was album Pink Friday and it was very successful, and then her next one Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded, went platinum and then what she wanted the most out of life, to help her mother and little siblings, came true. After that moment, she became a star. With that being said, Minaj is a person someone either loves or hates. She struggled with tons of harsh criticism, but she's learned not to care because she's the successful one. She puts what her fans and haters say into her songs. Nicki writes through her emotions, which is rare in the music industry these days.
Nicki Minaj was introduced as the greatest female rapper in the industry and won many awards and was nominated many times for best music video and female rapper and etc. Nicki slowly made her way to the top and many teenagers think she's a hero and a big inspiration for fighting her way through.
This blog is to inform people about Nicki's struggle through her fame, but yet she reached major success. People don't realize what she's gone though to become famous just to help her mother, and most criticize her for being 'fake'. In my opinion, and many others, she gives off the powerful meaning of never giving up. She's been through what a lot of people wouldn't want to and she became what she is now by going through her bad childhood, and became the great, succesful, Nicki Minaj.
